Academic lecturing in new ways

Materials:

None

Instructions:

The students are in pairs and have to prepare a two minute lecture within an academic area they have chosen themselves. The pairs give the lecture to the rest of the class. The challenge starts when the audience are allowed to provide suggestions about academic terms that need to be included in the lecture.

Variation:

The lectures can also be given in other interesting ways within subjects. Some ideas are:

  • Foreign languages – one part of the team gives the lecture in the group’s native language whilst the other student translates the lecture as they go to help an ‘imaginary group of foreign press’.
  • All subjects – one of the students does the lecture whilst the other mimes the academic content of the lecture.
