Going home

Materials:

A skipping rope per student

Instructions:

Each student sits in their ‘home’ which is illustrated with a skipping rope that lies on the floor in a circle. All of their homes are randomly placed in a marked area. On the basis of this structure the activity can be organized in different ways after the teacher have given an academic question: All the boys visit a minimum of three girls’ homes to discuss an academic question (and vice versa) All of the students walk around each other and discuss the academic question with the people that they meet. When the teacher shouts ‘go home’ the aim is to get back their homes as quickly as possible. This version can be developed into a game-like activity inspired by ‘musical chairs’. The teacher removes a house every time so there are fewer and fewer homes left in the game. In this version the students can take any house available.
